True Greatness

A man is as great as the dreams he dreams,

      As great as the love he bears;

As great as the values he redeems,

     And the happiness he shares.

A man is as great as the thoughts he thinks,

     As the worth he has attained;

As the fountains at which his spirit drinks,

And the insight he has gained.

A man is as great as the truth he speaks,

As great as the help he gives,

As great as the destiny he seeks,

As great as the life he lives.

                         C. E. Flynn

(wave your mouse over the picture)

I never dreamed one smile could fill
my world with warmth and light.
Until your smile made all my days
so beautiful and bright.

I never thought that love could be
this endless, deep, and true.
Until the day I gave my heart
and love to you.

I will be here for you
Till the day my life is through
And hold you right where you belong
This I promise you!

Biography of Joyce Kilmer

Joyce Kilmer

Joyce Kilmer (1886 - 1918)

Joyce Kilmer (December 6, 1886-July 30, 1918) was an American poet; his best-known work is "Trees". The poem is notable for its anthropomorphism: the tree in the poem presses its mouth to the earth's breast and looks at God and raises its leafy arms to pray. The poem was given a musical setting that was quite popular in the 1940s and 1950s.

Kilmer was killed in action by a sniper during World War I and is buried in the Oise-Aisne Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois, France.

Happy Puffin!

D I F F E R E N C E S   B E T W E E N   L O V E   A N D   L I K E

In front of the person you love, your heart beats faster
But in front of the person you like , you get happy.

In front of the person you love, winter seems like spring
But in front of the person you like, winter is just a beautiful winter.

If you look into the eyes of the one you love, you blush
But if you look into the eyes of the one you like, you smile.

In front of the person you love, you can' t say everything on your mind
But in front of the person you like, you can.

In front of the person you love, you tend to get shy
But in front of the person you like, you can show your ownself.

Then person you love comes into your mind every 2 minutes.
You can't look straight into the eyes of the one you love
But you can always smile into the eyes of the one you like.

When the one you love is crying, you cry with them
But when the one you like is crying, you end up comforting.

The feeling of love starts from the eye
And the feeling of like starts from the ear.

So if you stop liking a person you used to like
All you need to do is cover your ears,
But if you try to close your eyes
Love turns into a drop of tear and remains in your heart forever after.

 I believe I have a good chance.

Burt is applying for a new job and is very confident about himself.

Raelene:

Hi, Burt.  I heard you're looking for a new job.

Burt:

Yeah.  I just had an interview yesterday.

Raelene:

Oh.  How did it go?

Burt:

I think I did well.  They said they would make a decision by this Friday.

Raelene:

This Friday?  Looks like they want to hire the person as quickly as possible.

Burt:

Yeah!  I think so, too.

Raelene:

What are your chances of getting that job?

Burt:

I believe I have a very good chance.  The director seems to like me.

Raelene:

Well, good luck, then.

Burt:

Thanks.  I hope it helps.

Children's Bedtime Stories

  • Babe the Blue Ox
Well now, one winter it was so cold that all the geese flew backward and all the fish moved south and even the snow turned blue. Late at night, it got so frigid that all spoken words froze solid afore they could be heard. People had to wait until sunup to find out what folks were talking about the night before...

  • Brer Rabbit Falls Down the Well
One day, Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox and Brer Coon and Brer Bear and a lot of other animals decided to work together to plant a garden full of corn for roasting. • Brer Rabbit Fools Sis Cow

  • Davy Crockett and the Frozen Dawn
One winter, it was so cold that the dawn froze solid. The sun got caught between two ice blocks, and the earth iced up so much that it couldn't turn. The first rays of sunlight froze halfway over the mountain tops. They looked like yellow icicles dripping towards the ground...

  • The Fisherman and the Bear
One fine day an old Maine man was fishing and fishing on his favorite lake and catching nary a thing. Finally, he gave up and walked back along the shore to his fishing shack. • Jack and the Corn Stalk
Once, a Kansas farmer sent his son Jack to check on the growth of the corn in the field. Now Jack was not a tall lad, so he decided to take a ladder with him. When he found a nice big stalk of corn, he leaned the ladder against it and climbed up until he could reach the first joint. From there, he proceeded to the top of the cornstalk, and looked out over the field. There was enough corn there for a rich harvest...

A Man and His Dog

A Man and His Dog !

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that his faithful dog had been dead for many years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. As he reached the wall, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch, and the street that led to the gate made from pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water? We have traveled far," the man said.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment, remembering all the years this dog remained loyal to him and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going. After another long walk he came to a plain dirt road, which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water? We have traveled far."

"Yes, sure, there's a faucet over there." The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in and help yourself."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to his dog.

"There should be a bowl by the faucet; he is welcome to share."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned faucet with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is heaven," was the answer.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No. We're just happy that they screen out the folks who'd leave their best friends behind in exchange for material things."
